Happy weekend, friends! So I really wanted to make a Pokeball key chain for some time now. As I searched the interwebs near and far to try to find the perfect pattern, I ran into a problem. It wasn’t that there weren’t any patterns, there certainly were; there were patterns a-plenty. The problem was, every time I would find one I really liked, there was something that prevented me from using it. Either it used yarn I didn’t have, or the sizing was a bit off for what I wanted to do, or it looked awesome but was a little too time consuming of a pattern for my purposes. I wanted a pattern that utilized supplies I already had on hand (money is tight right now, so using what I already have is high priority. I’m sure many out there can relate to this, haha!), that was fairly simple, and not too time consuming. After not being able to find a pattern that checked all my boxes, I just decided, screw it! I’ll design my own! So here it is for you to enjoy. A quick, cute afternoon project perfect for keys, a purse, or a backpack (it is back-to-school time, after all).
Materials:
- 2.25mm/B crochet hook
- Lightweight DK yarn (yarn weight 3) in red, white, & black
- Fiberfill stuffing
- Stitch markers
- Key ring
- Tapestry needle
Terms:
- MR – “Magic”/adjustable ring
- Ch – chain stitch
- Sc – single crochet
- Inc – increase
- Dec – decrease
- F/O – fasten off
Ball:
1) Starting with white, sc 6 in MR. (6)
2) Inc around. (12)
3) [Sc, inc] around. (18)
4) [Sc 2, inc] around. (24)
5) [Sc 3, inc] around. (30)
6) [Sc 4, inc] around. (36)
7) [Sc 5, inc] around. (42)
8-10) Sc around, changing to black on last st of round 10. (42)
11-12) Sc around, changing to red on last st of round 12. (42)
13-15) Sc around. (42)
16) [Sc 5, dec] around. (36)
17) [Sc 4, dec] around. (30)
18) [Sc 3, dec] around. (24)
19) [Sc 2, dec] around. (18) Begin stuffing and continue as you go.
20) [Sc, dec] around. (12)
21) Dec around. (6) F/O, leaving a long tail.
22) Close up the hole using the tail, then ch 15. F/O, leaving a tail again.
Form a loop with the chains and secure the tail end to the top of the ball. Ideally, I would have used the type of key ring that already has a small chain attached to it, but I only had the rings, so that’s why I added the ch 15 loop. If you are using the rings with the chain, feel free to eliminate the chain loop, as it won’t be needed.
Center Dot:
1) Using white, sc 6 in MR. (6)
2) [Sc, inc] around, changing to black on the last st. (9)
3) [Sc 2, inc] around. (12)
4) Sc around. (12) F/O, leaving a tail. Center on the tail, and sew on.
