Skyrim C2C Crochet: Winterhold

February 22, 2020

Okay, I’ll admit it! I’m still trying to get the hang of this blog thing, obviously. The holidays and new year have come and gone, and before I knew it, it was the end of February and I hadn’t posted anything in months. Well, life happens people, what can I say, lol.

That’s not to say I haven’t been creating and designing and all the -ings, I just haven’t had time to sit down and post. Over the holidays, my husband had a stem cell transplant. While he was in the hospital, I tried my hand at c2c (or corner to corner) crochet for the first time. AND NOW I AM OBSESSED, LOL. Truly. I find myself daydreaming about possibilities for designs while I’m working my day job, and find myself plotting graphs on my weekends when I should be starting to build up stock for this year’s upcoming craft shows. OOPS. Seriously though, if you’ve never tried it, be warned. The possibilities are endless and magical. I can envision myself having WAY too many blankets in my house in the future!

Long before I taught myself how to crochet, I was a cross-stitcher. Unfortunately, I had to put that craft to the side for some time when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis because it just became too difficult to hold the needle. (These days, I’m able to cross-stitch again, so yay!) So when I discovered the c2c crochet technique I was all about it. I mean, who wouldn’t love crochet that is designed like cross stitch?? I used to design my own cross stitch patterns all the time, so I knew this was something I could definitely get into.

My other main hobby besides crocheting is gaming. I’m a rabid open world RPG game fan. So after binging The Witcher on Netflix 3 times, I was in desperate need of some gaming themed projects. Yes, I could have started fresh, and designed Witcher themed projects, which I do intend on doing eventually. But first, I thought, why not revisit my Skyrim inspired graph patterns I designed YEARS ago, before I even new about c2c?

The panel above I designed as part of my Skyrim city crests set. I crocheted all nine using simple single crochet, and when I first made them I loved the way it looked, but didn’t quite know what to do with the finished panels. Fast forward to now, a few pattern tweaks later, and now we’ve got a whole new set in the works! I started with Winterhold and used worsted weight yarn, a 5mm hook and the mini c2c technique, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I just used scrap yarn I had around the house, including some badass sparkle yarn I found for the white to represent the snowy city.

You can find my graph for the c2c panel below, and if you would like the graph AND the written instructions, they are available for a small amount over here in the Etsy shop! I will be working on the rest of the panels in the upcoming weeks, working up to joining them to make a blanket with any luck at all, lol! Wish me luck, and enjoy!
